Most home owners call us to ensure the safety of their home by scheduling an annual chimney sweep and inspection. The sweeping process involves first inspecting the firebox and shutting off the damper to prevent creosote and dust from entering the home. The second step of preventing a chimney fire is the inspection of the flue. We do this by looking down from the roof line into the flue searching for any evidence of cracks or flue separation which could cause a spark to ignite surrounding structures. Once we have determined the flue to be safe, only then do we proceed to sweep the chimney with a brush that corresponds to the diameter of the flue. This sweeping process removes existing flammable creosote and will prevent a future chimney fire. Once the chimney has been thoroughly inspected from the roof line up, removal of the soot and creosote, which is now resting on the damper, can be removed. Following the completion of the sweep, we then provide the customer with a detailed inspection report, summarizing the safety of their chimney and any adjustments that need to be made. |
