Sometimes you find that your damper won't close or that it's rusted out or maybe even missing. When this happens it's bad news for you, having a broken damper is very expensive, the fireplace usually does one of two things , it either sucks all the warm air from your house or constantly dumps a never ending flow of ice cold air into your house . We can fix that , sometimes we can repair the existing dampers and when that isn't possible we can install a brand new top damper . Top dampers are really the way to go when ever possible , the shut with a tighter seal and create and instant draft when you want to start a fire . When you have a top damper the air in the chimney is at room temperature most of the time ,so what happens when you open it the warmer air creates an instant draft which is a nice way to start a fire in your fireplace on a cold night . Sometime fires are hard to start because you have to warm the air in the chimney before you can get a draft , this eliminates that problem , we have top dampers for all fireplaces ,even prefab fireplaces and wood stoves.
