When the temperature in the front range starts to climb into the high 90s and break 100, the elk move above timberline seeking the comfort of the cooler climate at higher elevations. Also, grasses are plentiful and the lack of trees makes it much easier for the elk to see predictors. This is part of a herd of over 100 animals.
